Abstract

Chayote cutting machine is one of the tools that aims to assist in the process of cutting chayote from a manual cutting process which takes a long time and has a high accident rate, is now a machining process that has a faster cutting time and is safer to use. Chayote cutting machine has several main components, namely, electric motor, gear box, pulley, V-belt, bearing, shaft, crank pulley, piston pusher, and piston drive. From the design results obtained in the form of the design and workings of the chayote cutting machine with a driving source using an electric motor with a power of 1/4 HP and a rotation of 2400 rpm with a 1/40 gear box, the transmission system uses a pulley, V belt, and piston. The pulley used has a diameter of 2.5 inches for the drive pulley, 5 inches for the driven pulley and uses a type A V belt with a length of 54 inches. While the shaft uses S45C material with a diameter of 20mm with a shaft rotation of 30 rpm. The cutting tube uses stainless steel material with dimensions of 320mm long and 220mm wide with a thickness of 1.5mm. The frame construction uses an angled profile measuring 40mm x 40 mm x 4 mm from ASTM A36 steel which is commonly used in the
market. The results of cutting chayote using a cutting machine are able to produce as much as 90 kg in one hour.
